At an altitude of 1,432 metres, Monte Tesoro is a striking peak in the Bergamo Pre-Alps, situated along the ridge that runs south of Monte Resegone. Straddling the provinces of Lecco and Bergamo, the mountain marks the natural boundary between the San Martino Valley and the Imagna Valley, offering extraordinary views stretching from the Alpine peaks down to the plain.
A 360-degree panorama of lakes and pre-Alpine peaks
From the summit of Monte Tesoro, in the municipality of Carenno, the view stretches freely across an extraordinary horizon. Its strategic position on the Albenza ridge offers a 360-degree panoramic view encompassing the entire Adda Valley and the imposing peaks of the Orobic and Lecco Pre-Alps.
On the clearest days, the eye can reach as far as the distant Rhaetian peaks and admire the shimmering waters of the lakes of Brianza and Lecco, including Lakes Olginate, Garlate, Annone and Pusiano, which glisten against the green of the surrounding landscape.
The Monte Tesoro Memorial: a place of remembrance
As well as its scenic value, the summit of Monte Tesoro holds great historical and civic significance. Since 1985, it has been home to a striking memorial dedicated to the memory of Italian soldiers who fell in war. A 15-metre-high metal cross stands on the summit, visible even from the surrounding areas, and has over time become one of the mountain’s most recognisable symbols, attracting numerous walkers to explore this natural site steeped in history.
