Basilica of San Nicolò
Lecco's basilica brings together art and history in the heart of the city
The Church of San Giuseppe al Caleotto can be reached on foot, walking through the city centre towards the Caleotto district. This church was built between 1947 and 1951 and was dedicated to Saint Joseph, the patron saint of workers: in fact, in this area between the end of the 19th century and the 20th century, many ironworks sprang up.
The religious architectural style is very distinctive, thanks to its curious tent shape, and it was designed by the architect Carlo Wilhelm. Inside, a fresco can be admired that depicts the Universal Judgement by Orlando Sora, an artist closely linked to the city of Lecco.
This church was consecrated on 18 March 2012, sixty years after its construction, by Cardinal Angelo Scola, currently Archbishop Emeritus of Milan.
The church is only open to the public during religious services
