The experience begins in Galbiate, where we will meet to start a day together that will take us through history and nature.
We will follow a path that will take us to the Archaeological Area of Piani di Barra, a site rich in traces of the past, where an archaeologist will guide us through the excavations, revealing the secrets of this place. The archaeological area dating back to the Gothic period (5th-6th centuries A.D.) documents the discovery of an imposing fortified site built by the Romans in the Late Empire; it was part of a defensive system set up in the pre-Alpine area to contain the invasions of the Barbarians, and later used by the Ostrogoths and burnt and abandoned by them around 540 A.D.
After exploring this extraordinary place, we will move on to the Eremo of Mount Barro, where we will enjoy a lunch break. In the afternoon, we will visit the Archaeological Museum of Barro, where we will admire around 400 artefacts, including the famous Barro hanging crown, a unique treasure, before returning to our starting point.
