Our tour begins in Maggio, in Valsassina, and develops on paved roads and mule tracks, through mountain landscapes. Passing across Moggio, we will continue along a paved road, going up towards the Culmine di San Pietro, an important pass on the border of Valsassina and the province of Bergamo. The road, slightly sloping, presents ever wider views of the valley below.
A couple of km before reaching Culmine, we take the mule track that goes up to Piani di Artavaggio. Here begins the most adventurous part of the route: a well-marked but challenging mule track, with a steep slope that requires a good level of physical training.
Once we arrive at Piani di Artavaggio begins the last stretch of the mule track, which will lead us to Rifugio Nicola: it is an uneven and steep stretch, the hardest of the day, but less than 1 km long; here, the view opens onto the surrounding mountains and the plain below, and it is the perfect place to regain energy before tackling the return.
After lunch, we retrace back the uphill stretch to the crossroads, where we cycle up towards the Culmine di San Pietro, enjoying a panoramic view of the landscape that unites the provinces of Lecco and Bergamo. We will then begin the descent towards Maggio, following the old mule track connecting the pass to the town, with a mix of technical and fast sections, until we reach the starting point.
The route, which offers a combination of breathtaking views and technical sections, is suitable for mountain bikers with a good level of experience and who want to immerse in the beauty of the mountain.
