In the two centuries since Antonio Stoppani’s birth, the world has radically changed. We are now living in the Anthropocene, the geological period already announced by Stoppani himself in 1865, in which the activities of eight billion humans threaten to make our planet hostile to life for younger generations. What are the climate risks we face in the very near future? Luca Mercalli, renowned climatologist and scientist engaged in research on Alpine climates and ice, president of the Italian Meteorological Society and advisor to the European Union, with numerous editorial and television collaborations to his credit, tells us.
