{"id":3375,"date":"2024-04-11T12:11:04","date_gmt":"2024-04-11T10:11:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/?p=3375"},"modified":"2025-10-08T16:40:57","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T14:40:57","slug":"palazzo-delle-paure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/en\/palazzo-delle-paure\/","title":{"rendered":"Palazzo delle Paure"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Walking from Piazza Cermenati towards the historic centre, at the corner with Piazza XX Settembre, the <strong>Palazzo delle Paure<\/strong> <em>(the Palace of Fear) <\/em>stands in all its splendour, with its tower adorned with windows, among them triple lancet windows.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The architecture of the Palazzo delle Paure displays an eclectic mix of <strong>medieval and Renaissance<\/strong> features. Built in 1916, it housed the land registry, <strong>tax and customs<\/strong> offices where the people of Lecco went to pay their taxes (hence the name, the Palace of \u201c<strong>Fear<\/strong>\u201d!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the walls, the snake of the <strong>Visconti coat-of-arms <\/strong>in marble can be seen built into the wall here, dating from the fourteenth century.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The Palazzo delle Paure is currently the site of various <strong>temporary exhibitions<\/strong> of a selection belonging to the <strong>Modern and Contemporary Art Section<\/strong> and the <strong>Graphics and Photography Section<\/strong> of the Municipal Gallery, with works by great artists such as Vitali, Chiappori, Stefanoni, Morlotti, Gastel, Galimberti, Berengo Gardin, Fontana and Scianna.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The building also houses the <strong>Lecco Mountaineering Museum<\/strong>, where there is a collection of artefacts and documents owned by CAI Lecco, the local section of the Italian Alpine Club.
