This monumental complex is not only a jewel of <strong>Lombard Romanesque<\/strong> <strong>architecture<\/strong>, but also a symbol of Lecco\u2019s identity, seamlessly blending a thousand-year history with the serenity of the riverside landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>From Roman roots to the legend of the miracle<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lavello territory boasts ancient origins, having served as a strategic hub as far back as the Roman era. However, the site\u2019s spiritual rebirth took place in the second half of the 15th century. According to tradition, a hermit named <strong>Jacopino<\/strong>, while working among the ruins of the primitive medieval church, discovered a <strong>miraculous spring<\/strong> hidden beneath an ancient burial site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first miraculous event involved the healing of Martino, a paralysed child who regained his health after being immersed in the water. This was followed by another 52 documented miracles, transforming the site into a major pilgrimage destination. It was specifically to welcome these crowds of faithful that the <strong>Servite Fathers<\/strong> settled here in 1486, creating the complex we admire today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Unique architecture and artistic treasures<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The heart of the Monastery is represented by its <strong>two stunning cloisters<\/strong>. The Minor Cloister forms the original core of the cenobium, while the Major Cloister was developed later to house the refectory and the friars&#8217; cells. The adjoining church is striking for its rare architectural feature: a single hall with the altar area divided into<strong> two symmetrical chapels.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The interior walls are a treasure trove of Renaissance and Baroque painting. Of particular note is the <strong>Crucifixion of 1487<\/strong>, attributed to Giovanni de\u2019 Tornelli; it stands out for a hilly landscape so detailed it suggests an urban profile similar to nearby Lecco, dominated by <strong>Mount San Martino<\/strong>. The pictorial cycles continue with the majestic 17th-century works of <strong>Antonio Maria Caneva<\/strong>, known as Il Porlezzino, who decorated the absidal chapels with scenes from the life of the Virgin in a triumph of emotional intensity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>An international horizon: The Cloister Route<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the Lavello Monastery has crossed national borders to become the focal point in the Lecco province for the <strong>Cloister Route<\/strong>. This international cultural itinerary links Italy to Austria and Germany, promoting the recovery of shared monastic roots to tell the story of European identity.
