{"id":3531,"date":"2024-03-29T15:32:28","date_gmt":"2024-03-29T14:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/?p=3531"},"modified":"2024-06-08T12:13:04","modified_gmt":"2024-06-08T10:13:04","slug":"sasso-di-preguda-and-the-chapel-of-san-isidoro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/en\/sasso-di-preguda-and-the-chapel-of-san-isidoro\/","title":{"rendered":"Sasso di Preguda and the chapel of San Isidoro"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>Regional Natural Monument of Sasso di Preguda<\/strong> lies at an altitude of 647 metres on Monte Moregallo in Valmadrera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sasso di Preguda is an <strong>erratic boulder <\/strong>originally from Val Masino that is now famous for its panoramic location. Made of a type of granite called &#8220;ghiandone&#8221;, it is approximately <strong>seven metres tall <\/strong>and its shape is reminiscent of a pyramid. Erratic boulders (from the Latin &#8220;errare&#8221;, to wander), also known as &#8220;witches&#8217; boulders&#8221;, are large blocks of rock transported by <strong>glaciers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>chapel of San Isidoro<\/strong> makes the site even more interesting. Built by farmers at the end of the 19th century using the <strong>boulder as one of the walls<\/strong>, the chapel is truly unique.\u00a0 A plaque was placed on the boulder in 1978 in honour of <strong>Antonio Stoppani<\/strong>, the geologist who described this natural monument in a poem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From this vantage point on Monte Moregallo, the <strong>stunning panorama <\/strong>of Lake Como, <a href=\"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/en\/monte-resegone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Resegone<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/en\/monte-barro-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Monte Barro<\/a> and Lake Annone stretches all the way to the Po Valley.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Regional Natural Monument of Sasso di Preguda lies at an altitude of 647 metres on Monte Moregallo in Valmadrera.
