{"id":4823,"date":"2024-04-09T16:21:56","date_gmt":"2024-04-09T14:21:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/?p=4823"},"modified":"2024-06-10T15:55:16","modified_gmt":"2024-06-10T13:55:16","slug":"germanedo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/en\/germanedo\/","title":{"rendered":"Germanedo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>Germanedo<\/strong> district stands at the foot of the <strong>Comera valley<\/strong> and is crossed by the river <strong>Bione<\/strong> (its southern border) and the Borra stream.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Germanedo is a district lying at the foot of the hills that lead to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/en\/monte-magnodeno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Magnodeno<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/en\/monte-resegone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Resegone<\/a><\/strong> <strong>mountains<\/strong>, the latter immortalised in the famous opening line of Alessandro Manzoni\u2019s <em>The Betrothed.<\/em> Given its particular <strong>position<\/strong>, the district is an important gateway to some of the most spectacular <strong>mountain destinations<\/strong> of the territory.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In ancient times, the area of Germanedo was devoted <strong>to agriculture<\/strong>, especially farming <strong>silkworms<\/strong>, to the point of being one of the most important centres in Lucco for silk production. In the nineteenth century, major <strong>spinning mills<\/strong> operated here, the old buildings of which today house new activities of various kinds. The district\u2019s historic centre, with its road network, is located behind the Alessandro Manzoni Hospital past the church dedicated to Saints Cyprian and Justina. Walking towards the mountains and following the course of the Bione river, the <strong>Madonna della Rovinata<\/strong> is reached, a small sanctuary that watches over the district from on high, the square in front of which offers an evocative <strong>balcony<\/strong> overlooking Lecco. The name \u201cRovinata\u201d and the building of the sanctuary are owed to an event deemed miraculous. Around the middle of the nineteenth century, a small chapel stood here that, one night, emerged unscathed from a disastrous landslide. It was therefore decided to build a sanctuary, thanks to the generosity of the community and pilgrims.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The origin of the name:<\/strong> the origin of the name \u201cGermanedo\u201d is uncertain. Some scholars believe it is due to the abundant presence in these areas of people originally from Germany in the distant past. Others, however, claim the name may derive from the Latin word germinetum (germination), which suggests a fertile place.<br><strong>Quarters:<\/strong> Paese, Cesura, Eremo, Belfiore, Villaggio and Neguggio.<br><strong>Inhabitants\u2019 nickname:<\/strong> the nickname of its inhabitants is \u201cgrata sass\u201d or \u201csgar\u00ec sass\u201d.
