{"id":4827,"date":"2024-04-09T17:12:09","date_gmt":"2024-04-09T15:12:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/?p=4827"},"modified":"2024-06-10T16:14:44","modified_gmt":"2024-06-10T14:14:44","slug":"maggianico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/en\/maggianico\/","title":{"rendered":"Maggianico"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Maggianico <\/strong>is a district where there is still the atmosphere of stillness and harmony that, at the end of the nineteenth century, made it a favourite destination for <strong>intellectuals<\/strong> linked to the Milanese movement known as the <strong>Scapigliatura<\/strong>, literally, the unkempt or dishevelled, in the tradition of the Bohemians. Drawn by the atmosphere evoked by the spa waters of Barco, poets like <strong>Antonio Ghislanzoni<\/strong> and Vespasiano Bignami and musicians such as <strong>Carlo Gomes<\/strong>, Amilcare Ponchielli and Enrico Petrella used to meet here and share moments of delight and creativity. Many of them built magnificent <strong>villas<\/strong> that still dot the district.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It lies to the extreme <strong>south of Lecco<\/strong> in a position clearly separated from the rest of the city on the slopes of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/en\/monte-magnodeno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Monte Magnodeno<\/a><\/strong> near Lake Garlate. The rivers Cif and Tuf cross the district and flow into the Lake.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>legendary <\/strong>event gave rise to the curious nickname of the inhabitants of Maggianico.<br>According to the tradition, on the 30<sup>th<\/sup> of November, the day of the celebration of Saint Andrew, the patron saint of the parish church of Maggianico, <strong>chestnuts<\/strong> were usually distributed to the people. At dawn, the district\u2019s inhabitants came together in the parvis of the church of Sant&#8217;Andrea to await the rain of chestnuts that arrived from &#8220;heaven&#8221;: in fact, during the night. The church\u2019s main bell had been filled with chestnuts which, on ringing the first Ave Maria, were <strong>tipped <\/strong>onto the festive crowd.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The origin of the name:<\/strong> some scholars hold that Maggianico derives from the name \u201cMagius\u201d.<br><strong>Quarters:<\/strong> Maggianico Alta, Barco and Missirano.<br><strong>Inhabitants\u2019 nickname:<\/strong> \u201cBelegott\u201d, cooked chestnuts.<br><strong>Not to be missed:<\/strong> a walk in the park of Villa Gomes and a visit to the neoclassical church of San Rocco.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maggianico is a district where there is still the atmosphere of stillness and harmony that, at the end of the nineteenth century, made it a favourite destination for intellectuals linked to the Milanese movement known as the Scapigliatura, literally, the unkempt or dishevelled, in the tradition of the Bohemians.
