{"id":6525,"date":"2024-10-25T11:08:58","date_gmt":"2024-10-25T09:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/?p=6525"},"modified":"2024-10-25T11:09:41","modified_gmt":"2024-10-25T09:09:41","slug":"monument-to-the-fallen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leccotourism.it\/en\/monument-to-the-fallen\/","title":{"rendered":"Monument to the Fallen"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Monument to the Fallen of the city of Lecco is an extraordinary <strong>granite memorial stone<\/strong> created in 1926 by <strong>Giannino Castiglioni, <\/strong>one of the greatest sculptors of the twentieth century.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lakeside Monument pays tribute to those <strong>from Lecco who fell in the Great War<\/strong> \u2013 to whom those of the conflict in Africa and the Second World War were added \u2013 and <strong>portrays a lady with her wings folded and her faced wracked with pain<\/strong>, which is regarded as the symbol of the Motherland, gazing across Lake Como and the mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the foot of the stela on a stepped, stone base, a band of <strong>bronze high reliefs<\/strong> runs along all four sides, created by the Fonderia Artistica Battaglia of Milan in 1923.
