Pescate is an ancient fishing village nestled between Monte Barro Regional Park and Adda Nord Regional Park. Inhabited since the Stone Age, it later became an outpost on the River Adda during the Roman period, as shown by finds dating from the 1st century BC, including tombs containing cinerary amphorae, bronze pans and ladles. Just a few kilometres from Lecco, Pescate evokes the landscapes and atmosphere of The Betrothed, with its well-equipped parks, beautiful lakefront promenade to explore on foot or by bicycle, hillside trails, places of worship and a giant bench offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
In the heart of Pescate, just a few steps from the lake, stands the parish Church of San Salvatore e Santa Teresa di Gesù Bambino, designed in the Neo-Gothic style by architect Spirito Maria Chiappetta. Built in the first half of the 20th century, the church is known for the bas-relief above its entrance, depicting Saint Thérèse kneeling on the water before the Divine Saviour. Heading uphill towards Pescalina, the ancient little Church of Sant’Agata, traditionally regarded as the patron saint of women, is also well worth a visit.
Ready to feel like a child again? In Pescate, you can climb onto a wooden bench around two metres high and four metres long and experience the fun of feeling very small indeed! The bench can be reached from Parco La Fornace, with its equipped play area, panoramic lakeside walk and installations dedicated to characters from The Betrothed. Set in an exceptionally scenic location overlooking the lake and surrounding mountains, the giant bench is a fun attraction for adults and families alike—a chance to share a little adventure and take some truly original photos!
One of Pescate’s outdoor highlights is the Anello dei Laghi, the “Ring of the Lakes”, one of the area’s most scenic cycling and walking routes and ideal for exploring either on foot or by bicycle. Towards Monte Barro Regional Park, Baita Pescate, a mountain lodge and community space, is also well worth a visit. Reached along an easy route suitable for families, it is an ideal destination for discovering nature in a fun and engaging way.
