In winter, the mountains of Lecco, less than an hour from Milan, are the perfect destination for spending one or more days of fun on the snow: Alpine and cross-country ski slopes, trails suitable for snowshoeing, meadows and woods that are covered in a white mantle that makes everything silent and magical.

In the province of Lecco, winter offers a wide range of sports activities that can be practised on the snow, making this season an exciting time for lovers of the open air. Not only do these activities offer an excellent way of keeping fit, they’re also great for enjoying the beauty and magic of winter.

And, after a day on the snow, relax in one of the many mountain shelters located near the slopes and paths, easy to reach, where it is possible to warm up and enjoy typical dishes of mountain cuisine.

🏂🏻 Skiing and snowboarding
Among the main activities are Alpine skiing, shooting down the slopes at breathtaking speed, and snowboarding, which combines the adrenaline of the descents with the possibility – for experts – to perform spectacular acrobatics.
With 36 kilometres of slopes, the Piani di BobbioValtorta resort is suitable for everyone, beginners, families with children and expert skiers. Thanks to the 16 slopes and 12 ski lifts, you can choose easy routes or more technical descents, such as the panoramic Orscellera slope, which offers an extraordinary view all the way to Milan on very clear days, or the spectacular descent of the Tre Signori to the foot of the peak of that name.
Beginners and young children can learn to ski in safety on the baby slopes served by moving walkways, available at Piani di Bobbio, Piani di Artavaggio, Pian delle Betulle, Cainallo and Alpe Giumello.
For snowboarding fans, Bobbio Park will live up to all expectations. Located at the arrival point of the first chairlift of Piani di Bobbio, the park extends across 1,500 square metres and provides facilities for exhibitions and training on five levels, with routes for different levels of expertise.

🎿 Cross-country skiing
For those who prefer a slower pace, cross-country skiing offers the chance to explore snow-covered landscapes in a more relaxed way. In the Lecco area, fans of this sport can enjoy numerous slopes and circular routes suitable for all levels of experience.
Among the best known are the Rhododendron ring at Piani di Bobbio and the Tre Signori ring at Ceresola (Valtorta): both have technical variants suitable for every level and offer varied, scenic and evocative routes.
A 2.5 kilometre ring approved for national competitions can be found Cortabbio di Primaluna.
In Cainallo, cross-country skiing lovers can enjoy a ring nearly 3 kilometres long that winds through the woods, offering unique panoramas of the Larian Triangle around Lake Como.
Finally, a 3 kilometre circuit can be followed at Alpe Giumello where, in January every year, the “Alaskan Malamute Sleddog Day” is held, which includes dog training lessons, trial sled rides for children, dog trekking and sled dog trails, and non-competitive matches.

❄️ Snowshoeing
The dedicated routes for snowshoeing treks are perfect to fully experience the magic of winter: snowshoes make it possible to walk on fresh snow, completely immersed in nature.
From Piani di Bobbio to Piani di Artavaggio, passing through Piani d’Erna, Cainallo, Pian delle Betulle and Giumello, every mountain resort in Lecco territory offers enchanting routes immersed in woods and snow-covered meadows!

🛷 Bobsleighs and sleds
Very young children – or those who aren’t keen on skiing – can have fun on the slopes with bobsleighs and sleds at Piani di Bobbio, Piani d’Erna, Piani di Artavaggio and Alpe Giumello, with equipped areas and moving walkways for a fast, easy ascent. Perfect for carefree moments of relaxation to be enjoyed as a family or with friends.

🗻 Alpine skiing
Climbing snow-capped mountains along the Alpine skiing routes is a great opportunity to discover truly spectacular panoramas: perfect for sporty types who love adventure.
Piani di Bobbio-Valtorta, Piani di Artavaggio and Piani d’Erna are perfect departure points to explore the snowy landscapes and enjoy unforgettable experiences.
The mountains always require adequate physical preparation and suitable equipment. Before setting off, consult the weather and avalanche bulletins to ensure your safety.
