Piani d’Erna
Lecco’s panoramic viewpoint between Lake Como and Mount Resegone
The Nature Trail is a very popular walking route in the Lecco area, situated in the stunning Piani d’Erna valley. Situated right at the foot of the rocky faces of Monte Resegone, this route offers a superb view of the town and the lake, combining the beauty of the landscape with significant educational value. The route is a 6.5-kilometre circular walk which, thanks to a modest elevation gain of just 215 metres, is ideal for children and for those seeking a refreshing stroll without excessive physical exertion.
Along the trail, which reaches a maximum altitude of 1,373 metres at Pizzo d’Erna, visitors are guided by 21 educational panels that reveal the secrets of the Alpine ecosystem. This open-air exhibition offers an in-depth look at the local flora, dominated by beech and birch forests, and the fauna that inhabits these peaks. As well as its natural features, the trail offers fascinating geological insights, recounting the origin of the sedimentary rocks formed over 200 million years ago and preserving the historical traces of the ancient iron mines, which were active between the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
The starting point for your adventure is the village of Versasio, easily reached from the centre of Lecco by bus no. 5 or by car to the cable car station in Via Prealpi, 34. To reach the plateau where the Nature Trail begins, you can opt for the convenience of the cable car, which takes you up to an altitude of 1,300 metres in just a few minutes, or choose a more active approach by walking up along Trail No. 1 in around two hours.
The entire circular route takes an average of three hours to complete, making this destination one of the best options for a day trip out of town in close contact with nature.
