Lierna is a small town that lies between Mandello del Lario and Varenna on the eastern shore of Lake Como. This ancient village dates back to the Celtic period but the narrow streets of the old town and the ancient castle evoke a mediaeval atmosphere.

A high point of any visit to Lierna is the castle, a mediaeval fortress with fine frescoed walls. Once the home of Theodelinda, Queen of the Lombards, it offers breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

For nature lovers, a walk along the Sentiero del Viandante is not to be missed, a scenic route that runs by the lake and offers spectacular panoramas.

Known as “the pearl of the lake”, the village of Lierna boasts a beach of white rocks called the “Riva Bianca,” one of Lake Como’s largest.
